BIRTH FAQ'S

what areas do you service for births?

I service the whole Sydney area. I also service out of Sydney, I have been to births as far south as Wollongong and up to the hunter valley and central coast.
I will travel up to 2.5 hours out of Sydney for a birth.

WHEN SHOULD I CALL YOU?

It is best that you call me as soon as you think labor is starting. I would much prefer for you to call and then find out it's false labor, rather than being
unprepared and maybe missing your birth. The earlier I hear from you the easier it is for me to get ready, prepare and make it to your birth.

HOW LONG WILL YOU BE AT THE PLACE OF BIRTH FOR?

I usually come to the place of birth when you are in active labor (or between 6 and 7 cm dilated).
Every birth is different, some can be very fast, and some are a bit slower. If you have had fast births in the past, then I would generally come a bit earlier to make sure I didn’t miss it!
I then stay about 1- 2 hours after the birth, to capture the first feeds, cuddles, placenta, measurements and checks on baby!

WILL WE MEET BEFORE THE BIRTH?

Yes ! I always try and meet birth clients at least twice before the birth. We will have a birth client meeting so we can get to know each other a little bit and
we can talk about your birth plan, your birth wishes and what things you want documented and what you don’t.

DO YOU USE FLASH?

There are times when I do use flash and times when I don’t. I always ask permission to use it first. If you do not like the flash being on then I will turn it off.
But I make sure that clients know the benefits of having flash, the quality of the images are a lot better, sharper, clearer and less noisy.

ARE MY IMAGES SHARED ONLINE?

I love to share my birth photography and your birth stories online, but I only do so with permission from you.

WHAT HAPPENS IF i MISS THE BIRTH?

I get asked this question a lot! There are a few reasons why a birth photographer could potentially miss a birth.
One being a fast labor and delivery, in these situations I still come to your place of birth and start documenting your birth story as soon as I arrive.
If for some other reason, such as a medical emergency and I am unable to attend the birth, I have a few amazing birth photographers to call on to back me up.
Communication is key ! It is very important to have efficient communication with your birth photographer. I ask my clients to contact me as soon as they feel like labor is starting.
This gives me plenty of time to organise and also more travel time, and staying in contact during the labor is very important. This helps me gauge when the best time to leave is, to make it to your birth space in time.
